A black swallowtail caterpillar larvae dines on the leaves of a Queen Anne's Lace plant in Lily Lake. They also like to dine on the leaves of parsley, dill, fennel and carrots. Depending on food source and temperature variables, the larvae stage can last for 10-30 days before they enter the pupal stage with can last up to 18 days before they emerge as as a butterfly.
